When we first dreamed of raising funds for the Lung Cancer Program at Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre more than six years ago, we never imagined what would grow from that idea — a committed Steering Committee, a strong volunteer base, and a diverse, supportive community united around improving lung cancer care.
Today, Bev Crushes It (bevcrushesit.ca) is a community-driven fundraising golf event that supports the Lung Cancer specialist team’s highest priorities — including education, research, capital projects, and patient care — helping advance cancer care now and for the future.
Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Program is deeply integrated with the Sunnybrook Research Institute and the Precision Diagnostics and Therapeutics Program. By tailoring treatment to each patient’s unique biological, genetic, and imaging data, the Lung Cancer team delivers minimally invasive, highly personalized care — improving outcomes and quality of life.
I am deeply grateful to be a patient of the Odette Cancer Program. Each year, it supports more than 300,000 patient visits and is the leading provider of radiation treatment in Toronto. High-performing multidisciplinary teams — including my own specialist team — lead hundreds of clinical trials and preclinical studies annually, advancing diagnostics and treatments, many of them world firsts.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters, we have raised more than $830,000 to date — funds that are already driving meaningful change for lung cancer patients and their loved ones.
Looking ahead, we are setting our 2026 milestone at $1 million, on our way to a longer-term vision of raising $5 million. Lung cancer remains one of the most stigmatized and underfunded cancers, despite affecting increasing numbers of non-smokers and younger people. There is still so much more to do — and your support can help make it possible.
We hope you’ll be part of what comes next.
