My Message

I would love your support! As many of you know, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) has had a huge impact on our lives, with both of the children being diagnosed in their teens. Emily and Andrew have experienced many ups and downs over the years, but thanks to the help and support they received (and continue to receive when necessary) are now living successful lives. I believe their journey; their story, is one that gives hope to others who battle their OCD daemons every day! Emily is an MD (medical doctor) finishing her final year of a pediatric residency and Andrew, three University degrees in and now working as Marketing Insights Coordinator for the HSBC (The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) I am so very proud of them and their accomplishments. Life has not been easy for either of them, but despite all the obstacles placed in their way, they have kept up the fight!

Sadly, as much as I wish with all of my heart and soul that there was, there is no cure for OCD. The good news is however, that with the right help, sufferers can manage their symptoms and live happy, healthy, productive, successful lives! Emily and Andrew would not be where they are today without all of the help they have received over the years from HSC (the Hospital for Sick Children), the IOCDF (International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation), Rogers Memorial Hospital (in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and most recently at Sunnybrook Hospital’s Frederick W. Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre.

As you may know, there is inadequate Government funding being allocated to Mental Health in this great country of ours AND with the addition of the pandemic and its impact on everyone, but especially on those suffering from a mental illness, there has never been a greater need! Because of this inadequate funding, the institutions and services I mentioned rely heavily of private donations to augment the government subsidies in order to function. With more money and support, they reach out to more people and do more work for the community.

For this very reason, I have made it my mission to help the institutions that “saved” my children. I am excited to be taking part in the 5th annual OCD Walk Toronto in support of Sunnybrook hospital's Frederick W. Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre. The funds raised will support important services that treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – a mental health disorder that affects people of all ages and walks of life . Services for OCD can be hard to find which is why the Frederick W. Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre is such an important resource. The Frederick W. Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre is the only program in Canada that offers a range of services from individual and group therapy, to psychiatric consultations and care, to residential treatment. It has changed people’s lives.

I want to help the Frederick W. Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre continue to do its work, and to raise awareness of this mental health disorder. Please join me in supporting this important work.

There are so many ways YOU can help! You can come out and join me and my team “The Purple ERPles,” on the June 11th  5K walk, send words of support and encouragement, and/or sponsor me with a small donation. If you want to hear more about the event, possibly joining the team, or how you can help, please feel free to contact me anytime!!

Thank you in advance for your help!
