Glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer, is a diagnosis that changes lives in an instant. It’s a disease that affects not only the individual, but everyone around them—family, friends, colleagues, and entire communities. For those of us at Metro Golf Sportsplex, that reality became all too personal when our beloved founder, Frank Topos, was diagnosed with glioblastoma.
Frank wasn’t just the visionary behind Metro Golf Sportsplex—he was its heart. His passion, integrity, and infectious enthusiasm for the game of golf and the community he helped build created something far greater than just a sports facility. He turned the Sportsplex into a second home for many, a place where people came not only to practice their swing but to share laughter, support one another, and grow together.
Frank’s journey with glioblastoma was one marked by immense courage, and through it all, he remained the dedicated leader and family man we all admired. His passing left an undeniable void—but it also ignited a purpose. It reminded us of the critical importance of raising awareness about glioblastoma, advocating for better research, and supporting those who are affected.
Throughout this journey, the Sunnybrook Foundation has been a pillar of support for our family and for Metro Golf Sportsplex. Their commitment to advancing brain cancer research, providing world-class care, and standing beside families during their most difficult times has made a meaningful difference. Thanks to their dedication, we have found both hope and healing.
Frank’s legacy lives on not only through the fairways and driving bays of the Sportsplex, but also through our ongoing commitment to this cause. We share his story in hopes that it may shed light on the impact of glioblastoma, inspire support for further research, and encourage other families to seek and find the same strength we did.
