About The Cause
With several long-term studies now complete, Dr. Nam is excited to focus on genetic analysis work with Sunnybrook Research Institute’s Dr. Arun Seth. “Appreciating that no two prostate cancers are exactly alike and the best outcomes come from treatments tailored to each patient’s individual biological needs, we’re developing innovative methods of analyzing the unique gene expressions of each person’s prostate cancer and then developing personalized and precise treatments to treat the disease earlier, faster and with fewer side effects,” says Dr. Nam.
With support from Prostate Health Classic, we recently purchased a gene expression sequencing machine to examine whether we can identify microRNA (miRNA) markers in the blood stream and correlate them to tumour expression within prostate cancer cells.

Dr. Robert Nam will launch two new large epidemiologic studies with your ongoing support. The first will explore how COVID-19 impacted screening rates and whether that in turn affected the stage of prostate cancer at diagnosis along with treatment plans. He also plans to explore wait times for urologic care, a timely issue with a direct impact on clinical assessment of cancer risk, diagnosis and treatment.
